Father James Fryar, FSSP
Spiritual Advisor
Father James Fryar was born in Sydney, Australia. He entered a Franciscan Monastery in Mexico City, Mexico, at the age of 15 in 1989. He was in the monastery for 12 years, during which time he was sacristan, Novice Master and eventually elected Brother Vicar.
He completed his Philosophical studies for the priesthood at the Seminario Conciliar de Mexico, together with his brother, Father Kenneth Fryar, and both the Fryar brothers joined the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter in the year 2000.
Father Fryar continued his studies at Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary, and completed them in 2003.
From 2003-2004 he was assigned as a deacon to a small country parish in Maple Hill Kansas where he taught elementary school.
He was ordained priest in 2004, together with his brother, by His Lordship Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz in Lincoln Nebraska.
Following his ordination, Father Fryar was assigned to St. Gregory’s Academy in Scranton Pennsylvania as Assistant Chaplain until 2007.
In 2007 Father was appointed as International English-Speaking Chaplain of the Confraternity of St. Peter, the lay branch of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter. Father is currently still the English Speaking Chaplain of the Confraternity, traveling often to give conferences, parish missions and pilgrimages all over the English Speaking world.
Also on 2007, Father was assigned to begin a Latin Mass apostolate for the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter in the Diocese of Venice on Florida, beginning as a Sunday Mass at St. Martha’s Catholic Church in Sarasota. Because of the many requests of the faithful, Father soon provided the Latin Mass for three more locations, St. Agnes Catholic Church in Naples, and Resurrection Parish in Ft. Myers, and at Our Lady Queen of Peace, in Ocala.
Father has also been instrumental in initiating Latin Masses in other parishes in the country, for example Knoxville TN, Miami FL, and Harrisburg PA, and has trained many priests in the celebration of the Traditional Latin Mass.
Father has made the Traditional Latin Mass available to the home bound on the web by installing a video recording system at Christ the King Catholic Church and streaming the live and recorded daily Mass on the iMass app and at www.livemass.net. He also made an app for the iPhone and Android, called iMass, that provides the facility of viewing the Daily Latin Mass anywhere, anytime. The LiveMass Apostolate has expanded to broadcast daily from Guadalajara Mexico and from Fribourg Switzerland as well. The goal would be to provide the Latin Mass from around the world, around the clock, live. Occasional travel broadcasts are made of ordinations and other special events like the 25th Anniversary of the FSSP, live from Rome.
In 2013 Father was administrator of Our Lady of Fatima Chapel and school in Pequannock NJ, also celebrating Mass frequently at Holy Innocents in NYC.
In 2014 Father received the assignment to establish a parish for the Fraternity of St. Peter in Los Angeles, a challenging task that he currently is striving toward!
